Het Beest in Ons
Het Beest in Ons is an exhibition and book project in collaboration with the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam.
For this project a curated selection of the museum’s collection has been given a voice in the form of a monologue to address current social topics. It’s amazing to discover what we can learn from the animal world on those topics.”A badger shares his view on the housing crisis and comes up with a surprising solution, while a Seahorse teaches us all about male pregnancy.”
The 25 monologues were written by a great selection of dutch writers like a.o. Ernest van der Kwast, Raoul de Jong, Paulien Cornelisse and Tommy Wieringa . After a city wide tour with a mobile recording studio a scouted group of Rotterdam inhabitants had the honour to record their voices for the final monologues in the exhibition. The initiative for this exhibition originated from Johan Idema. StudioSpass teamed up with Johan Idema and The Natural History Museum in the very early stages to design the project Identity, the tour and its mobile recording studio, the campaign, the exhibitions as well as the Book. The black crow by Florentijn Hofman was adopted for the exhibition’s campaign and the artwork outside the museum received a special new skin for the duration of the exhibition.
